• 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup thickened cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour
  • 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • Mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • Whisk or electric beater
  • Wooden spoon
  • Stove

What To Do:

  1. In a saucepan mix milk, cream and vanilla essence. Place the pan on the stove at a medium heat
  2. Stirring constantly (with wooden spoon), cook for 5 minutes or until hot
  3. Whisk egg yolk, cornflour and sugar together (either with whisk or electric beater), until the mixture is a pale yellow colour
  4. Pour egg mixture into the milk mixture and mix until well combine
  5. Return the saucepan to the stove on low heat. Stirring constantly, cook for 15 to 20 minutes (until custard is thick and coats the back of a metal spoon). Do not allow custard to boil
  6. Remove from heat. Serve warm or cold over fruit or by itself. Enjoy

Note: If you want chocolate custard add 100g chopped custard at the end of step 5 and stir until smooth.
